Sedation & Anaesthesia

We are dedicated to making the dentist experience a positive one and therefore focus on sedation and local anaesthesia to facilitate a pain-free experience. This is especially important for children as we pride ourselves on our little visitors wanting to come back.

We use a local anaesthesia which blocks the way nerves carry pain signals, in effect numbing the area. The numbness can last from about 2 to 8 hours. Local anaesthetic is used primarily for simple procedures where the treatment is minimally invasive.

Sedation helps children relax without putting them to sleep. Typically we use nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) or intravenous sedation. Another effect of sedation is that you remember very little about the treatment afterwards. After sedation we plan for a ‘quiet time’ for the recovery of the patient.

When necessary, and most often for young children, treatments can be conducted under General Anaesthetic. This is done in a hospital setting and can be arranged with us.
